Green Anole

Green Anoles Originate from South eastern U.S.A and normally only grow to a maximum of 8 inches. They have the ability to change colour from green to dark brown depending on their stress levels.

The Average life span of an anole is around 4 years, but can live up to 8 if cared for properly.

Housing
Vivarium:
Due to their small size, anoles do not need a big terrarium. Something like a 30x30x30cm viv will be sufficient enough for 2 anoles, but bigger is always better. As They are naturally terrestrial, make sure there are plenty of logs, plants and vines for them to climb on. Substrates such as wood bark and peat can be used as well as moss to keep a high humidity.

Temperature/Humidity:
During the day, provide a gradient from 75-80 F (24-27 C) with a basking spot of 85-90 F (29-32 C). It is absolutely vital that you have a gradient, if you do not have somewhere for your animal to cool down it will eventually die of heat exhaustion, due to not be able to regulate their own body temperature. Night temperature can be dropped a maximum of half what it is in the day. Humidity levels of 60-70% is necessary for anoles. This can usually be achieved by misting the inside of the tank daily with a spray bottle. always check the humidity and Temperature  with a Thermo/hydro gauge.

Lighting:
All diurnal lizards require  UV light from the sun, in order to produce vitamin d3 which they require to metabolise calcium, therefore a UVB light tube should be provided with a minimum of 5.0UVB and left on for around 12 hours a day. It should be replaced yearly even if the bulb itself still works.

Cleaning:
Remove faeces and uneaten food daily. Food and water bowls should be washed and dried each time fresh is put in. Vivariums should be totally cleaned out every couple of months or so with pet-safe disinfectant.

Feeding And Water
Anoles are insectivores, which means they eat insects. Therefore they should be fed on things such as crickets and mealworms.  Wild caught insects are also good but make sure you get them from a pesticide free area. Crickets and other prey should be dusted with a quality vitamin/mineral supplement a couple of times a week. Fresh Water should always be available.

Handling
Handling Anoles is usually not recommended. Some anoles may become comfortable with being gently handled. On the whole, however, handling is very stressful to them, and stress will cause them to become ill. They can also drop their tails if grabbed.
